Thousands without power after severe thunderstorms push through

Thousands of power customers were left in the dark after severe thunderstorms rolled through southwest Ohio Tuesday.

Large numbers of outages were reported in Champaign, Clark, Greene and Montgomery counties, with the most outages reported in Champaign County at 2,680 as of 3:10 p.m., according to AES.

Most of the outages were resolved within a few hours, but later in the evening, outages in Montgomery County would climb, with totals at 4,310 customers in the dark as of 6:25 p.m.

According to the AES, Duke Energy and Ohio Edison outage maps as of 7:55 p.m., the number of power customers without electricity, by county, are:

Butler: 37

Champaign: 325

Clark: 102

Greene: 387

Miami: 16

Montgomery: 4,017

Preble: 334

Warren: 129

The National Weather Service in Wilmington estimated the storms had winds up to 60 mph, and received multiple reports of wind damage.
